Everything’s okay

“It’ll be okay.”

I used to not know what people meant by that. “How can it be okay?” I thought. “Nothing is ever okay. Bad things continue to happen. Everyone we know and love is eventually going to die.”

But recently while hiking,I had an epiphany – What if instead of nothing ever being okay, everything is always okay?

Hasn’t God blessed my life with friends and family who care deeply about me?

Hasn’t he healed my emotional & mental wounds, taught me a lot, and made me stronger in the process?

Hasn’t he given me a rewarding career and talents through which I can pass on healing to others?

Aren’t I always the same exact person down deep inside, no matter what trials and traumas I endure?

Doesn’t the King of the Universe make himself a companion to me on a daily basis?

Don’t I have a perfect eternal body waiting for me, and Eternity to spend with Jesus and my loved ones in a place filled with pure joy and love that is far better than earth?

Yes. To all these questions, I have to admit the answer is yes.

So now I begin to understand. It’s not a cliché; not a trite, meaningless saying spoken by people just trying to make you feel better about inevitable disaster. When we look past the temporal into the eternal, our entire perspective shifts. Death and loss are transitions, the end results of which we cannot yet see. God has been faithful and good. Even in times when it seemed he wasn’t, he was looking out for me.

Ask Him to take you beyond the surface of your life. Ask Him for insight into the eternal. It’s a huge relief to realize, everything really IS okay.
